Activities for adults on Holland America Line ships

The ship's daily program is delivered to all staterooms on the previous evening, giving details and timings of the following:

• Meals and snacks
• Hours in port and shore excursion meeting times / places
• Daytime activities and organised events onboard - these range from art history tours of the ship to tennis tournaments and wine tasting.
• Opening times of onboard shops, casino, gym, beauty salon, etc
• Dress code for the evening
• Program of the evening entertainment

Organised daytime activities include:

• Sports - tennis, volley ball, golf - putting, shuffleboard, table - tennis, exercise, dance and stretch classes
• Games - bingo, board and card games, trivial pursuit and quizzes
• Tours - of the kitchen, the bridge, art history ship tours
• Demonstrations - ice carving, vegetable carving
• Films - contemporary and classic films shown in the cinema
• Lectures - on ports of call, special interest subjects, "University at Sea" programs
• Music - piano, jazz and band music in lounges
• Religious Services

Organised evening entertainment includes:

• Socials - pre - dinner cocktail and complimentary hors d'oeuvres
• Musical Entertainment - piano bar, string quartets and various bands
• Showtime - a spectacular Broadway style show repeated twice per night (for main and late sitting dinner)
• Dancing - for all tastes in most lounges and also the nightclub
• Crew Show - the songs and dances of Indonesia and the Philippines performed by the talented crew on one cruise night
• Casino

Activities for Children- CLUB HAL

• Holland America Line operates a youth program " Club HAL" for children aged 5 - 17
• Each ship is staffed with a professional Club HAL Director who will organise activities in separate age groups: kids ( 5 - 8), tweens ( ages 9 - 12) and teens ( ages 13 - 17)
• All activities will be supervised, however participants may leave the activity if they wish
• Each child receives a Club HAL t - shirt
• An activity schedule for each age group will be delivered to staterooms each evening
• Children under 5 are welcome to participate, providing they are accompanied by an adult
• A special Children's menu includes hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza and other favourites
• Holland America Line operates special children's' shore excursions in such destinations as Alaska
• Babysitting is generally available on a request basis only from staff members onboard. Information and charges can be obtained from the Front Office, depending on staff availability.
