Eminently suited for year-round voyages in the Pacific, Clipper Odyssey comfortably accommodates up to 128 guests in yacht-like style. Built in 1989 in Japan by Japanese craftsmen, her smaller size makes her ideal for exploring the Sea of Japan’s narrow waterways and hidden islands.
Clipper Odyssey carries a fleet of Zodiac landing craft that can be launched in minutes to take guests ashore in places that are off-the-beaten track. She is also equipped with state-of-the-art navigation equipment, ensuring guests the opportunity to explore some of Japan’s more remote destinations.
Meals are prepared by accomplished Clipper chefs, graduates of the finest American culinary schools; on-board cuisine is predominantly western-style, yet is often fused with subtle Japanese regional influences.
The Captain maintains an “open bridge” policy which gives guests an opportunity to observe and ask questions during the voyage. The on-board lecturers and naturalists enhance each cruise with fascinating discussions on the history and culture of Japan; they are a perfect complement to your knowledgeable Tauck Directors, who accompany your entire journey from Osaka to Tokyo!
Clipper Odyssey is well-designed for exploring Japan and her islands. Spacious public areas include two lounges, a small library, gift shop, small gymnasium, and dining room; recreation facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, dedicated jogging track, and two sunbathing decks. Her experienced cruise staff includes a physician and on-board lecturers.
Clipper Odyssey is equipped with both state-of-the-art satellite navigation and communication equipment, including telephone (available 24 hours a day, with most major credit cards accepted), fax and e-mail. Built with safety at sea in mind, the vessel fully complies with the strict provisions of the Int'l Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). She is fully air-conditioned and heated.
