On arrival at Montreal Airport the representatives met and walked with us to the central ship transfer area. We were told that because of recent rains the ship could not get under the bridge at Montreal and we were to be bussed (3.5 hours) to Quebec. They had thought of everything though! On board there was a "goodie bag" with lots of munchies and a bottle of water. Actually the bus was a bonus because not only did we get to see some of the countryside but it also gave us an extra half a day in Quebec which is a beautiful city. The next day was our wedding anniversary and we took a horse and carriage ride. The weather was glorious and our driver was very informative. In the old part of Quebec there were lots of small shops which my wife absolutely loved. I do not like shopping at all - but must admit there were some really nice things to tempt even the hardest of "non-shoppers"!

The cruise up the St. Lawrence River was unfortunately hampered by quite a lost of mist and the small towns we visited didn't look too interesting, except Halifax. The Citadel was the most amazing place and we spent much of our day there. It was not expensive to go in and there was a lot to see.  We learnt much history from the displays and from the people working there who were more than eager to help and explain. The firing of the huge canon at midday was a great thing to see (and hear).

Bar Harbour was also a very quaint and interesting town. The museums were interesting and again everyone was eager to help.
The last stop was Boston. – a very nice city with heaps to see and do. The hop-on-hop-off bus gave us 2 days sightseeing and a harbour cruise. The drivers gave a commentary and were very pleasant. A visit to the Naval Museum and Constitution (free entry) is well worth while.

The Maasdam itself is a very pleasant ship. The staterooms are quite large and comfortable. The public areas are really nice too. The food was great and the staff were exceptional. During the day there were quite a few things to do. We wanted to do the half hour Tai Chi. But unfortunately the times were 8am (we wanted to go ashore) and 5.00pm (we had early sitting dinner at 5.45). So we only made it once when we were not in port. The evening shows were first class.

We would definitely sail with Holland America again and recommend them to friends.
