First time cruise experience with the luxurious Ponant
Sailing on Ponant from Cairns to Darwin was the most wonderful experience. As my first cruise it was truly amazing. I had a prestige stateroom on deck 5, my cabin was forward and I thought that this was going to be an issue for me because it is located near the Bridge and I thought that I may have heard crew come and go – however this was not the case.
Crew and staff on board cannot do enough for you, they are extremely attentive and ensure that all your needs are taken care of and nothing is too much trouble for them. What I thought was great was that the Captain made himself known amongst guest, he even drove the tenders and was very happy to chat with passengers and he had a wonderful sense of humour.
Dining was an experience, the waiters make sure that they get to know you. The waiter at my table discovered that I have a sweet tooth so at dinner he would bring me two desserts. I also had the same waiter for breakfast so as soon as he saw me enter the dining room he would have my coffee at my table before I even had a chance to sit down. The food is absolutely divine.
The facilities on board are very lovely and quiet, there was no rushing to get seats out in the sun or in the dining room. The Piano Bar is lovely to sit and relax in, during the day you can sit in the sun in a lovely recliner and read a book and have a quiet drink and not be disturbed. At night this is a lovely area to have a quiet drink before dinner whilst listening to the piano.
As my first cruise I cannot fault Ponant they really do look after their passengers and they have cruising down to a fine art from the very easy embarkation and disembarkation. I cannot recommend Ponant enough for small ship sailing. Sailing with Ponant will not leave you disappointed.
