Mediterranean cruise with Holland America Line

My best holiday ever was the 24-day Mediterranean cruise with Holland America Line in April/May 2011.
So many countries seen and wonderful foreign cities explored. It was fabulous! Highlights included Gaudi's unique architecture in Barcelona, docking on a perfect day at Monte Carlo and seeing Istanbul for the first time and also visiting the Spice Markets, Grand Bazaar and Blue Mosque.
I made the most of every port and chose excursions to see as much of the countryside as possible. Often these outings included authentic meals in a Villager's Home in Turkey, or lunch by a rustic mill in Croatia.
For me, the most treasured memory is of a 3-day port stop in Venice. We spent a day wandering Venice, seeing all the sights and just sitting in St Mark's square, having a coffee, listening to the music and watching the crowds - just being in the moment - in Venice - just perfect. The evening Gondola ride was a sublime experience - definitely once in a lifetime.
It was always with a sense of "coming home" that I returned to my stateroom, often tired but always happy. My stateroom was very comfortable and the complimentary 24 hour room service much appreciated.
I am now looking for my next adventure with Holland America Line and Travel the World , as the whole "expedition" of planes, transfers, ships and excursions went off without a hitch!
